Fox Chapel Crew
Club
STUDENT CONTRACT
The Fox Chapel Crew Club is a club sport associated with Fox Chapel Area High School. All student members are students at the high school. In consideration of being permitted to participate in the practices, competitions, and/or other activities of FCCC, the crew member (and the parent or guardian when applicable) agrees to be governed by and abide by the provisions of this Student Contract. All crew members should read and understand the expectations and commitment to FCCC that are stipulated in this contract. All crew members are required to pass a swim test, and all fees and payments must be made in a timely manner as required for membership. Rowers and their parent or guardian are required in addition to sign the US Rowing waiver.
This contract must be read and signed by both crew member and parent or guardian. Please read and check each of the following statements and sign the bottom of the form.
c Discipline is a key element of safety at all crew practices and activities, both on land and water. Crew members must be responsive to the directions given by coaches and coxswains. Practice at the TRRA boathouse may only be by group participation unless specially arranged with a coach.
c Responsible behavior is a key element of participation in crew activities. Any crew member willfully damaging equipment will be suspended from practice and may be dismissed from the team. The crew member and/or his parent or guardian will be liable for willfully damaged equipment. Responsible behavior includes caring for your own personal belongings and helping out with setting up and taking down tents, cooking equipment, etc. at races.
c Respectful conduct is crucial to any community activity. All crew members must refrain from vulgar language. Crew members must also understand and obey any and all rules and requests issued by coaches, chaperones, parent volunteers, racecourse officials, and event staff. They must also have and display an attitude of respect for their team members, coaches, parent volunteers, and chaperones.
c Parent chaperones are at away races and other FCCC events to promote the safety of the crew members. They also guide the crew members through the event schedules and loading and unloading busses, etc. thereby insuring the smooth running of FCCC participation. Crew members must comply with all directions given them by chaperones at races, including any regarding room assignments, carpool arrangements, team meetings, and curfews.
c Alcohol,
drugs, and tobacco have no place in
athletics. The use or possession of any of these during any crew related
activity may result in immediate dismissal or suspension from the Fox Chapel
Crew Club. If a crew member is observed to be under the influence of any of
these substances at a crew activity, the crew member’s parent or guardian will
be informed. Such a crew member may be suspended from activities or dismissed
from the team. Reinstatement may be considered if the Board determines that
special conditions warrant consideration of this possibility and if a written
request for reinstatement is made to the Board.
c Commitment
to Fox Chapel Crew is required to build
rowing skills, athletic stamina, and esprit de corps. Students are expected to
attend and fully participate in all practices, unless prior arrangements have
been made with a coach. Consistently missing practices, not participating in
all aspects of practices, or engaging in disruptive behavior will result in
disciplinary action: the student being suspended from practices, being
disqualified from racing, or being dismissed from the team. Judgement of the
situation and application of an appropriate penalty and the potential for
reinstatement is up to the coaching staff and will be supported by the Board.
c Commitment to Fox Chapel Crew also means participating in Fox Chapel Crew sponsored activities and races as a student’s first rowing priority. No member may directly compete in any racing event against a Fox Chapel Crew entry as a member of another crew. Rowing as a member of another crew in events scheduled on the same day that Fox Chapel Crew has entered a regatta must be approved in advance by the coaching staff. Any physically able member who refuses to row in an assigned event or misses a race without prior notification to the coaching staff may be disqualified from racing.
c
Erg Scores, attendance at practice, work ethic, and achievement of certain
skill levels will be measures that are used to determine which crew members are
placed in first, second, and third boats at practices and which are eligible
for participation in races.
